Falafel Balls - Vegetarian Recipe

This recipe is a traditional and the most popular middle east cuisine delicacy. Falafel is a meatless food and good source of protein and suitable for vegetarians, a deep fried ball made from chickpea, typically served in pita bread or it can also be eaten itself as a snack with delicious sauces (e.g. Mint-Parsley Sauce).

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Chickpea
  • ½ Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • Coriander Leaves
  • ½ tsp Coriander Powder
  • ½ tsp Cumin Powder
  • ½ tsp Chili Powder
  • Pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tbsp Plain Flour
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda
  • Oil for deep frying
  • ¼ cup Parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp Turmeric

Instructions
 

  • Soak the chickpea with water and let it for overnight.
  • On the following day, drain off the water and rinse them.
  • Finely chop the onion, coriander leaves, garlic.
  • Pour chickpeas and all the other ingredients (except flour and baking soda) into a food processor and blend it until it turns into a smooth mixture.
  • Then add plain flour and baking soda and mix it well.
  • Wet your hands and form falafel mixture small sized balls (if the dough is sticky then add a tbsp more of flour or add a little bit of olive oil to your hands).
  • Deep fry the balls (for about 7-8 minutes) in hot oil and medium fire. Stir occasionally.
  • Once the falafel turns golden brown, drain off on to the kitchen paper and it's ready to be served.
